MADISON — The Wisconsin Elections Commission has found probable cause that billionaire political activist Elon Musk broke the law when he gave out checks to voters during the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court election.
The Elections Commission referred two complaints to the Brown County district attorney’s office. The office now can decide to bring criminal charges for bribery. There is a 40 day window for the prosecutors to report back to the commission. The Brown County prosecutor was sent the complaints because Musk handed out a check in Green Bay, within Brown County, prior to the election. There were a total of three checks handed during the course of the campaign.
The Brown County prosecutor David Lasee, a Republican, has not made a public statement on the complaints as of press time. The result of the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court election was a win for the liberal candidate and another liberal candidate won in 2026 giving the Wisconsin Supreme Court a 5-2 liberal or Democratic-backed majority.
