MICHIGAN — Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has earned the endorsement of Committee to Protect Healthcare, an advocacy group that seeks lower costs for patients, more access to healthcare centers and for a stronger healthcare workforce.
In an email to supporters, Committee to Protect Healthcare said, “after hearing directly from Secretary Benson earlier this month, on a call many of you joined, it is clear that she is the best candidate for our patients’ health and wellbeing.”
The group went on to claim that Benson is the only candidate to put forward a comprehensive healthcare affordability agenda. The pillars of that plan include:
- Establishing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board to lower costs
- Holding insurance companies accountable
- Expanding access in rural and underserved communities
- Addressing the Black maternal health crisis and protecting reproductive health care
- Strengthening the health care workforce
- Tackling medical debt and increasing hospital price transparency
“At a time when health care is under threat at the federal level, Michigan needs a governor who will both defend access and move the state forward, and we believe Jocelyn Benson is that leader,” said the Committee to Protect Healthcare in an email signed by Rob Davidson, MD MPH, executive director of the committee and Farhan Bhatti, MD, the Michigan State Lead of the committee.
The primary for governor will take place August 4, 2026.
