Gina Johnsen, Republican State Representative Candidate of District 71, is aligned with groups fighting to repeal the Affordable Care Act. This would put 1.2 million Michiganders at risk of losing coverage, and would put those with pre-existing conditions at even greater risk.
Johnsen is backed by the Michigan Freedom Fund, an organization that opposes Government oversight and regulation, and pushes forward extreme conservative policies. They have fought to repeal the Affordable Care Act, without regard for the Michigan residents they are potentially putting at risk.
Johnsen has had a dangerous response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well. She has blindly backed President Trump’s rhetoric, spreading misinformation online to supporters. She’s posted that the pandemic response is propaganda, shared false information about mask wearing, and claimed those infected by COVID-19 fared much better than those with the flu. This continued false rhetoric is dangerous and puts her community at risk.
Finally, Johnsen is backed by Michigan Right to Life, an organization that is against a woman’s right to choose. She believes that abortion should be illegal, even in instances of rape and incest. She also has advocated to repeal Roe vs. Wade, which would leave the health of women in Michigan communities at risk.
Gina Johnsen’s dangerous outlook on health care would be detrimental to our communities. She would leave Michiganders with pre-existing conditions, women and those affected by COVID-19 at extreme risk.
