The New York Times/Sienna College poll released this week shows President Joe Biden at a 33% approval rating. The poll also showed a majority of Democrats want a new standard bearer in 2024. According to the poll, a preschool teacher from East Tawas, Michigan stated, “I’m just going to come out and say it: I want younger blood,” said Nicole Farrier. “I am so tired of all old people running our country. I don’t want someone knocking on death’s door.”
In light of the recent Dobbs decision, a record low number of Americans, 13 percent, say the country is on the right track. The Times poll did not give an indication of why the 20 percent of voters who approve of Biden’s job as President but think the country is on the wrong track feel that way.
In a hypothetical rematch of the 2020 election, 44% of voters chose President Biden with 41% choosing former President Donald Trump.
In response to the poll, Matthew Dowd, a candidate for Lt. Governor in Texas and former George W. Bush staffer tweeted, “All this speculation about the 2024 presidential race and Biden and Trump’s standing in the primaries seems very out of place in this moment. If GOP wins key races in 2022, it won’t matter who either party nominates in 2024, democracy will be broken. Focus folks focus.”
