Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt Announces Run for Michigan Governor

LANSING — Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt of Porter Township announced he is running for Governor in 2026. Nesbitt, a career politician, has served in the Michigan legislature since winning election to the House of Representatives in 2010 at the age of 30. Nesbitt is term-limited and would not be able to run for a seat in the legislature.

In a release, Nesbitt declared, “Michiganders deserve so much better than what they’re getting.” Nesbitt went on to mention higher taxes, more spending, more debt, and less jobs.

An entry in Wikipedia declares, Nesbitt grew up on a six generation family dairy & grape farm in Porter Township, just south of Lawton in Van Buren County. He is the middle of five children, with two older brothers and two younger sisters. He said this taught him the values of hard work, self-government, and independence. His father served three tours in Vietnam and came back home to run the family dairy farm. He served as a page in the U.S. House of Representatives during his junior year of high school and was a delegate to the American Legion Boy’s Nation between his junior and senior year of high school.
