PHILADELPHIA — Vice President Kamala Harris was declared the winner of the debate by Independent voters, Democratic and Republican pundits. On the debate stage, Harris was poised, strong and in command of facts. Harris was able to tune out the former President and speak directly to the American people about her plans to lower costs, protect abortion rights and keep America safe.
On the contrary, former President Trump fumbled his way through the entire debate. Often sidetracked, Trump made a bizarre claim that the people of Ohio eat cats and dogs and defended his crowd sizes – that have been shrinking and are much smaller than Vice President Harris’ crowds.
Former New Jersey governor and Republican candidate for President Chris Christie weighed in after the debate, “She was exquisitely well prepared, she laid traps, and he chased every rabbit down every hole instead of talking about the things that he should have been talking about. This is the difference between someone who is well prepared and someone who is unprepared.”
President Joe Biden, who beat Donald Trump by over 7 million votes in 2020, also weighed in, “Wasn’t even close. VP Harris proved she’s the best choice to lead our nation forward.”
In an article listing five takeaways from the debate, NPR claimed Harris won the debate and it wasn’t even close. The five takeaways included:
-
This debate wasn’t close.
-
The spotlight should now be on Trump’s incoherence and general lack of any serious grasp on policy.
-
Trump was on the defensive and evasive, even on issues that should benefit him – and didn’t land much, if anything, that stuck.
-
The moderators fact-checked unlike in the previous debate.
Fox News asked a panel of 17 undecided voters who they thought won the debate and 12 raised their hand for Harris with only 5 voicing support for Trump.
A poll by the Washington Post showed that 92% of swing state undecided voters who watched the debate thought Vice President Harris won the debate.
On X, a platform formerly known as Twitter, many pundits had harsh words for the former President:
Jeff Timmer, a Michigan-based political consultant who has worked for both Republicans and Democrats stated:
“Going back over the debate. Holy shit. Donald Trump is the dumbest, craziest, and most undisciplined buffoon on earth. All primates, many species of birds and several inanimate objects have greater cognitive heft, understanding of the world, and negotiating skills than Trump.”
Former Fox News anchor and CNN contributor Chris Wallace stated, “Tonight was just devastating. It was a shutout on almost every subject I can think of. Trump looked angry, scowling, and old.”
Post Debate Surprise – Taylor Swift Endorses
Immediately following the debate, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris posting on Instagram:
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.
I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.,
I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.”
